The Nursing Human Resources Development Index

We are creating the first publicly available, comprehensive data resource on the global nursing workforce.

About the NHRDI

Nurses are the backbone of health systems, yet their vital contributions are often overlooked. We know nurses are essential for improving public health and responding to global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, but data on the global nursing workforce is fragmented and incomplete. This makes it difficult for leaders to make informed decisions and invest in a sustainable nursing workforce.

The Nursing Human Resources Development Index is a groundbreaking solution designed to address this problem. We are creating the first publicly available, comprehensive data resource on the global nursing workforce.

The NHRDI will equip nurses, policymakers, and researchers worldwide with the data they need to make evidence-based decisions. By making this index publicly accessible, we are ensuring that this vital information is available to anyone who wants to use it to drive positive change in healthcare.

Our Goal

The NHRDI will collect and standardize existing data from partner countries to provide a clear picture of the nursing profession. By analyzing this data, we can understand the key factors that lead to a sustainable nursing workforce and reveal the critical links between nurses, public health, socioeconomic development, and gender.

This project is not a traditional research study; rather, we are focused on gathering existing data from key stakeholders to create a powerful, unified resource.
